Radioligand Receptor Binding Services

Radioligand Receptor Binding ServicesWe offer a variety of in vitro and ex vivo radioligand receptor binding assays for screening and characterising project compounds. Assays range from off the shelf receptor binding assays for well-characterised neurotransmitter receptors and uptake sites using commercially available 3H or 125I radioligands to novel assay development using custom-made radioligands. Assays can be performed in cell lines or homogenates/slices prepared from mouse or rat brain tissue. Ex vivo binding to determine receptor occupancy at central receptor sites can be performed in homogenates or in slices obtained from the brains of rats or mice following acute administration of the test drug or in tissues obtained at the end of chronic studies.

Drugs can be given by a variety of routes for ex vivo binding. Plasma/CSF samples can be taken for pharmacokinetic analysis.A Biospace β-Imager is employed to provide high speed quantitative autoradiography. This can be used to identify receptor binding sites and to quantify receptor occupancy or CNS penetration of novel drugs. The β-Imager is also available to read clients slides if required.
