Bomb CalorimetryBomb Calorimeter for Measurement of Energy Content

We can determine the energy content of food, carcasses and faeces using a Parr 6100 Bomb Calorimeter. This technique provides a direct, highly accurate measure of calorific content.

Measurement of the energy content of food, faeces and carcasses by bomb calorimetry, together with the results of feeding studies, enables us to evaluate the effects of potential antiobesity drugs on metabolisable energy intake, energy expenditure (the difference between metabolisable energy intake and carcass energy content) and therefore total energy balance.

Analysis can be performed on samples from feeding studies conducted at RenaSci or on carcasses and faeces from external studies.
