Drug-induced Weight Gain

A number of drugs (eg certain neuroleptics and thiazolidineones) produce weight gain in man. Animal models of obesity can be used to assess the potential of novel drugs to produce weight gain as an adverse effect in the clinic and also to explore whether antiobesity agents can prevent the increase in body weight produced by other drug treatments.
