Animal models involving administration of antibodies targeting the glomerular basement membrane can be used to investigate the efficacy of novel treatments against glomerulonephritis.
We have established the antibody-induced anti-glomerular basement membrane (anti-GBM) disease model in mice and rats.
Intravenous administration of anti-rat glomerular basement membrane serum increased urine albumin excretion; the urine albumin creatinine ratio; the urine protein creatinine ratio and histological features of kidney damage including tubular protein; tubular degeneration/regeneration; tubulo-interstitial inflammation and glomerulosclerosis scores.
Our mouse model of glomerulonephritis has been validated using enalapril.
