STZ/HFD Model of Type 2 Diabetes

Experimental model of diabetes is induced in rodents by administration of streptozotocin (STZ), a glucosamine–nitrosourea compound that damages pancreatic β cells, resulting in hyperglycaemia. RenaSci have developed mouse and rat models of STZ/HFD Model of Type 2 Diabetes where animals administered STZ are fed a high fat diet.

The STZ/HFD Model of Type 2 Diabetes model is characterised by:

  • Impaired glucose tolerance when fed a high fat diet
  • Similar development of chronic kidney injury in mice and rats
  • Stable phenotype (compound dosing for up to 140 days)
  • Plasticity: we showed that an endothelin-converting enzyme/neutral endopeptidase inhibitor is effective in preventing the injury
  • Fully customisable study design
