Cardiovascular Measurements

Cardiovascular measurements such as blood pressure and heart rate can be measured in rats and mice in our animal models using a CODATM non-invasive blood pressure system (Kent Scientific). This apparatus is routinely used by the pharmaceutical industry to measure cardiovascular parameters, and has been validated by the manufacturers to correlate with telemetry and direct blood pressure measurements.

 

The parameters that can be measured are:

  • Systolic blood pressure
  • Diastolic blood pressure
  • Mean blood pressure
  • Heart rate
  • Tail blood volume
  • Tail blood flow

Cardiovascular measurements

 

n=11-60 (Days -13/-12) and 11-12 (all other days). Mice were dosed with STZ (50 mg/kg ip) on Day -20 to -16.
Animals were divided into two cohorts for all measurements. The 50 mg/kg po dose of losartan was reduced to
30 mg/kg po from Day 57. *po<0.05, **p<0.01, ***p<0.001 vs vehicle. †p<0.05, ††p<0.01, †††p<0.001 vs STZ.
